Risk on Elder Abuse and Mistreatment Instrument (REAMI)

Background

The REAMI supports professionals to prevent and assess elder abuse. The instrument 1) includes signs of abuse as well as risk factors of abuse, 2) is evaluated by the users as a short and to the point instrument which can be completed in time-demanding work environments, 3) the concept of perpetrator is left open in the questions, 4) refers to the physical, psychological and social environment of the older person and 5) has good psychometric qualities. The REAMI was developed with the quantitative data from 1920 older clients of home care and analyzed with exploratory and confirmatory analysis (De Donder et al., 2018).

The Risk on Elder Abuse and Mistreatment Instrument (REAMI) is developed as a cooperation between researchers from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Flemish Supporting Centre for Elder Abuse and Mistreatment, and Familiehulp vzw (i.e. a large home care organisation in Belgium).
